Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ

The overall mission of Salem Church is to serve God in Christian mission, expressing the love of God for all people through service of others. This is accomplished through religious services and faith development, but also through mission and outreach in many ways into the community and world.
Salem Church was established in 1848, with roots in Quincy that even precede that date. Our building has stood as a Quincy landmark since 1876. Our steeple was visible from the river from the time when the waterway was the main form of transportation in and out of the city. The building is on the national register of historic sites. Through the years Salem Church has continued in Christian ministry as one of the most prominent churches of the city. In recent years, a visible gift to the community is evident in the development of Salem’s Heritage Park, across the street from the Church. The gazebo and grounds are open to the public and widely used. The Salem Hall and other rooms are open to public use and provide space for many non-profit organizations for special events and meetings. Salem also has a long history of cooperation with other churches in order to promote the unity of all Christians.
At the core of the congregation’s ministry are the spiritual needs that run so deep within all people. Our witness to life-giving faith through Jesus Christ is at the center of all we do in worship, in sacrament, in service. Special ministries include children-youth-family programs, fellowship groups, Christian Education and Bible study, pastoral counseling, and outreach of many forms, including a Saturday noon time meal prepared for those who need nourishment for the body and soul and a Grants Program that benefits local agencies and individuals. More information about Salem Church and its ministries can be found on the web at
Ways to Give:
There are many ways that gifts to Salem Church may be directed to special areas. The General Operating Fund supports the ongoing ministry of the Church. The Heritage Fund supports social projects and upkeep of our buildings and grounds. The Benevolence Fund is used to support the wider ministry of the United Church of Christ and many agencies within Quincy and beyond. Our Unrestricted Endowment Fund invests the donations received and uses the earnings for grants in five special areas including community outreach, the wider mission of the United Church of Christ, capital improvements, innovative ministries within the congregation, and support for Christian leadership development.
Cash gifts are always welcome. Gifts in the form of securities, annuities, real estate, and through estate planning are also welcome and often offer special benefits to the donor. Any gift may be recognized as a memorial to a loved one or in honor of a special occasion. More information about special ways to give a directed gift can be obtained by contacting the Church Office.
